Hunting season is upon us... Lord Jesus protect my eyes from the multitude of slain animal carcasses that will surely fill up my timeline in the coming months. Proud men and women standing, antlers in hand, foot on body with primeval looks upon their faces--fists pumped in the air.
Oh hunters, I don't begrudge you your hobby, and I will certainly seek you out during the impending zombie apocalypse because I will lack the specially honed skills of killing, skinning and preparing freshly caught game which will be essential to my survival. I also recognize the amazing benefits of obtaining fresh food that was not purchased at the local grocery, pumped full of hormones, sodium and pink dye. I'm all for anyone who wishes to go out there and catch their own dinner provided they are not doing it simply for the sport of chasing down a defenseless, unarmed creature... I just feel overwhelming sadness at the demise of these amazing animals who share the woods with me while I'm digging up relics.
Look, I'm the sensitive type. I cry over road kill, so I really don't want to see dead Bambi pictures or trophy heads on the wall. But unfortunately for me, those who run in the metal detecting world tend to be avid outdoors folks and hunting is often part of that lifestyle. Therefore, as a member of this community that I love so much, it is a burden I must face as I scroll through my daily news feed ripe with a flurry of leafy camouflage and lifeless fur. (And now undoubtedly taunts from my hunting friends who will relentlessly tease me over this!! Go gently on me!)
So in response I will leave you with the eloquent words of Marissa Tomei to provide the sum total of my feelings on the matter: "imagine you're a deer..." "You put your little deer lips down to the cool clear water... BAM! A F%$king bullet rips off part of your head. Your brains are laying on the ground in little bloody pieces!" Now I ask ya, do you think he gives a F&$k what your selfie looks like? (I improvised that last bit of course.) [Click Here For the Full Effect]
